Development of Library and Information Science in Technical Colleges of KBK Districts of Odisha, India
KBK districts constitute 8 districts with more than one third of their population being scheduled tribes. The incidence of illiteracy among scheduled tribes in these districts is about 62 per cent and this is more pronounced among the females and in rural areas. Technical education, on the other hand, aims primarily at equipping a man for work in the practical sense of getting him fit for a job. The development of technical education in the KBK districts of Odisha is not very poor. In the KBK districts, totally eleven polytechnic institutions are there; out of which is one is govt diploma college in Rayagada, one govt.degree engineering college, six private engineering colleges and sixty two ITIs, which provide technical education in KBK districts. KBK districts are famous for its underdevelopment. But in the development of technical education, it is not underdeveloped but it is developing. If we evaluate the library of technical colleges of KBK, we will find that libraries of some of the technical colleges are as advanced as IITs, NITs, etc and others are still in traditional mode.
