TITLE: Performance Management Antecedents in the Public Sector: Factor Analysis and Common Method Variance Tests





The fundamental importance of the performance management system in the public sector organizations cannot be over-emphasized. This fact has been highlighted and promoted by the vast volume of literatures. Performance management is the process of creating a work environment or settings that enables people and organizations to perform to the best of their abilities. Therefore, drawing evidence from the seminal work of David Otley and motivated by the contribution of experts on the modern performance management practice, this study tends to extend the empirical boundaries of the concept by taking a holistic look at the relationship between the performance management antecedents and the public sector organizational performance in Nigeria, with the moderating effect of the performance audit. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to carry out goodness of measure test (factor analysis) and common method variance test to suit the supposition of the multivariate data analysis. Specifically, a total of 322 useful questionnaires were retrieved from the MDAs in Nigeria and keyed into Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The findings of this study later reveals that, the data is best fit and perfectly fulfilled the conditions of conducting further stages of multivariate analysis to the logical end.
