Abstract

It is impossible to think about the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is impossible for a bird to fly on only one wing.” – Swami Vivekananda

India has a long history of considering women as housewives and men as working individuals of family who take care of financial needs. Generally, the status of women was not on equal terms with men in the past century in India. However, there is a wave of positive change in the status of women in India today. This paper aims to study changing status of women in Delhi on basic parameters of Demography, Education, Health, Economic participation, Political participation and violence against women in this era of Globalisation along with theoritical perspectives of various aspects of women’s empowerment. Changing perspectives and provisions in consecutive Five Year Plans and UN for empowerment of women are also covered in this paper.
