Cloud Computing and its impact on library practices and services

Hemlata Suresh Bonde

Nowadays, cloud computing is emerged as one of the most popular virtual technology for libraries to deliver the services in an effective manner. Cloud computing focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of shared  resources. Cloud computing allows enterprises to get their applications up and running faster, with improved manageability and less maintenance, and enables IT to more rapidly adjust resources to meet fluctuating and unpredictable business demand. Cloud computing provides the tools and technologies to build data/compute intensive parallel applications with much more affordable prices compared to traditional parallel computing techniques. This paper describes the need of cloud computing in LIS and illustrates its features along with advantages and concerns with examples.
